The FTA ran 91 awareness events in H1 2026. Here's why that matters for your firm.

The Federal Tax Authority ran 91 awareness events in the first half of 2026. Nearly 34,000 people attended — up 23.3% year-on-year.

That's a significant uptick. When the FTA moves that many resources into public education, it usually signals something: new compliance requirements are landing, or existing ones aren't being followed closely enough. The spike tells you what the regulator thinks is broken or needs reinforcing.

From a practice perspective, this matters because your clients will have walked out of at least some of these sessions with fresh expectations about their tax obligations. They may have heard clarifications on VAT refunds, corporate tax filing deadlines, or excise tax handling. They may have picked up on stricter audit signals or registration rules. If you haven't kept pace with the substance of what the FTA is now emphasising in these events, you'll be fielding confused questions from clients who heard something different from the official channels.

The FTA publishes guidance and e-learning materials after major awareness drives. The awareness campaign data also signals pressure points — which sectors are being targeted, which compliance gaps the regulator sees as material. If you serve construction, retail, logistics, or hospitality, the events often flag sector-specific rules before enforcement tightens.

This doesn't mean you need to attend every FTA session yourself, though some practitioners do. What it means is watching the FTA calendar, scanning their e-learning portal after major pushes, and staying alert when client questions cluster around the same topic. That clustering usually means the FTA has just run a campaign.

Keeping your books filing-ready and your VAT and corporate tax packs current helps. When a client walks in having heard something new from an FTA event, you can respond calmly because your records are clean and your filings have been on time — no half-finished returns to scramble through while you're trying to read the regulatory tea leaves.

Watch the FTA newsroom. It moves faster than you'd expect.
